Alien Vs Predaror (not The Fox, The Xcom Ones)

blaster bomb saturation. problem solved! -
Checking back in, and I have to say that UFO:ET with Bman's Mod is great fun! The mod cures a lot of the things that were wrong with the standard game, and I'm having a great time. Cash is a HUGE problem, but the mod allows you to set bounty on aliens killed, and that is the only thing that keeps me solvent. One frustrating part was the inability to research alien weapon tech, but I read on a forum that I have to capture a live commander and force it to talk to learn the secrets of Eleriu- uh, the source of the aliens' power. I've restarted twice after overextending myself early on. My last game, I had just entered the second era/phase, where alien cruisers start showing up, and my scientists come up with plans for a new fighter craft using captured alien alloys and power sources.

I have Xcom 2 installed, but have never played it. I downloaded f0dders fix for it, but when I run it, it wants me to pick the exe target, then I get a "patch code timed out" error, and still have garbled video.

Read up on it, and from what I gather, while the original game wasn't all that great, the mod community has polished it up some. I grabbed a copy off of eBay, and will check out the mod community. Thanks!

So, is there any modern game out there that has destructible terrain and the "X-Com feel" to it, that's worth spending money on? As has been said forty million times before, I'd LOVE an updated X-com, with 3D and taking advantage of today's computers, but keeps the feel of the original. I actually spent $150 for the Torque Game Engine and started recruiting people to start a game development company to make an updated X-Com, but then the company I worked for went out of business and I've been scrambling to find full time work ever since.

Bottom 6th Of Screen Black....
Torgen replied to Outlawstar15a2's topic in Xcom 1: Technical Support
If that is as wide as your monitor is displaying, there is nothing wrong with your screen. I have a 19" widescreen Acer monitor, and I have black bands on top and bottom. You aren't missing any information or part of the screen at all. (I just ran the game to check. ) -
I was told that the version on Steam is the DOS version with Dosbox

Except for the emotional attachment you end up investing in them

Thanks for the info, guys! I never knew aliens wouldn't shoot directly down the lifts. I've been killed so many times by them shooting guys on the next floor that were standing NEXT to the lifts, that I never imagined that ON the lift would be safe! I'll do the "Shoot the Ceiling" from the middle floor next time, even though it feels a bit like cheating (though, I could breach the floor with HE then fire up through the hole. Would stun bombs hitting a ceiling above an alien stun it?) When I'm good enough to start winning at the highest difficulty, then I'll go for the assaults on the bridge.

Well, even though I have Floaters, Snakemen, and now Muton ships appearing, and I sent up my interceptors and skyrangers on patrol, I've only found a Sectoid base. I've stopped running ground assaults on the supply ships landing there, because I'm losing at least 5 men each trip! More than once, I've ended the mission with only 1 or 2 guys. I'd take out the freaking base if I thought I stood a chance, but with the butt-kicking I'm taking on the supply ships, I don't think I'm up to it. I think that next supply ship that lands, I'm going in with 3 or 4 small launchers, and after cracking open the wall to the command center, carpet-bombing the interior with stun bombs. I need to get a sectoid leader before the Etherials show up, and get psi training underway. Also, I am looking at the graphs for UFO activity, and sending planes to patrol where there is a spike, but I can't find another base at all! I'm in August 1999. I've shot down so many UFOs over Southern Africa and Central Asia that the aliens keep sending retaliation scouts to the area (which I shoot down! ) Any advice on taking out sectoid leaders and finding alien bases is greatly appreciated! (I didn't want to make two threads at once, so combined my questions.) I found the UFO floor plans, but haven't found any alien base plans. Are there any online, or is the base layout random?

I had my first base defense, and thanks to an early sectoid navigator capture, had hyperwave decoder so knew it was coming. I took all my soldiers off the Skyranger, and my heavy weapons. When the base defense started, I assigned weapons as normal, but when the fight started, NONE of my heavy plasmas had any ammo! I was reduced to using one rocket launcher and a HWP rocket tank, then running guys up to the dead sectoids to scavenge clips and HPs. That lasted all of about three turns, when a blaster bomb came into the lift, killing three guys and four more guys when it took out the two storerooms down the hall! I gave up at that point, and now am going to have to start over from a saved game two hours back. What the heck happened??? Between the stock I emptied on the Skyranger and what was in storage, I had something like 35 HPs and 75 clips.

I thought this thread was about armed prostitutes???

Dell laptop here, T2330 dual core, 2GB RAM, Vista Home Premium. Turbo and game set to CPU0. I have to set Turbo to 1% and the in-game scroll speed to 1 to ave any chance at all at scrolling and not having the cursor shoot off to the edge of the map. Unfortunately, these settings also make the the game freeze up for a couple of seconds fairly often. I have music, except of course when the game pauses.

Or.... Add code so that the longer you take to get there, the more civilians are killed before you start on the Battlescape. Give a little time before the civvies start dying "off-screen" to give you time enough to get a ship up and on-site, but after several hours, the civvies start getting knocked off. Shame on you for dragging your feet when innocent people are in mortal danger!
