Seb, I'm looking over the .ini file included with the loader and I tried some of the mods out in game I love what you've done. Especially that providing intel via black box thing. It adds a new dimension to warfare and makes it feel like a global war. Very well done. Though I was wondering if you know of a way to fix the interceptor window bug. IO can't intercept UFOs bec ause of it. I heard about MoSlo but I can't use it since I'm in Vista. Something about the filename has to conform to 8.3 standards which is a bummer since Windows doesn't use that standard anymore and I don't know if I want to rename folders. I heard of a program called turbo is it capable of running in Windows and can somebody provide me with the link?

Enemy Unknown (ce) Et Version 28/03/2005
Outlawstar15a2 replied to max's topic in Xcom 1: Technical Support
Is there a newer version of ET newer then 3/28/2005 I can install it and I can intercept UFOs but ET makes the game clock and only the game clock waaay to slow. Other then that I have no problems with it. Either that or is there anyway to speed up the game clock? I can't run the game unpatched as it won't intercept UFOs and I can't use XcomUtil as it crashes on startup. EDIT: I couldn't help it I had to add my two cents on base design. Heres how my expansion bases look. Note the only type of expansion base I usually have interest in are airbases for interception my main base can usually handle the rest.... ================= NNNNNNNNNN HHH NNNNNNNNNN HHH NNNNNNNNNN HHH NNNNNNNNNNRAHHH NNNNNNNNNN HHH NNNNNNNNNN HHH NNNNNNNNNN HHH MMMMMMMMM HHH BMMMMMMMM HHH ================= N=Normal base components like General Stores, Living Quarters, Porn Shops, etc etc... M=Defenses all your varieties like Missile, Plasma, Fusion, and so on and so forth. Obviously as the game progresses I make concerted efforts to upgrade all defenses at all expansion bases. However by the time I get to starting expansion bases I usually have access to alien based defenses (plasma, maybe fusion) so sometimes I just need to build them and add a Bombardment Shield/Grav Shield later on. B=Bombardment Shield/Grav Shield. R=Radar, usually transmission resolver/Hyperwave decoder A=Access Lift HHH HHH=Hangar HHH I'm curious as to what ya'll think of that expansion design..... -
I have a different problem. If I use the UFO.exe without ET it plays beautifully but I can't intercept UFOs. If I use ET I can intercept UFOs and the game runs beautifully but the time is too slow to be playable. If I try to use XcomUtil without ET it crashes upon startup though I can hear the intro but no video.

Bottom 6th Of Screen Black....
Outlawstar15a2 replied to Outlawstar15a2's topic in Xcom 1: Technical Support
Hey want to hear something hilarious. UFO was running way too slow. The menus and stuff was fine but the time on the geoscape was slower then when I played it on my old 386. So after trying everything I reinstalled the game and voila! not only is the time golden but the screen is now full again. LAWLZ!! I don't know what happened but I feel better now. -
Bottom 6th Of Screen Black....

So it's because I'm playing it on a widescreen? Hm, ok. It just freaked me out since TFTD and Apocalypse doesn't do that. -
Does Xcom Run Easily On Vista Computer?
Outlawstar15a2 replied to Tokk's topic in Xcom 1: Technical Support
I'd suggest you get the original and then DOSBox it. I have the CE version and it's a ***** to get to run under Vista, then when you finally get it to run the games (especially UFO Defense usually suffer from graphic glitches that really mess up your whole day (all that work for nothing...) -
I just got all three games in the Collector's edition to work. Fought past legion after legion of glitch, install bug, compatibility shortcomings, and Vista's own personal CMS (those of you who are in a relationship know what that term is a parody of...) and I finally gun past all the problems to be faced with this implacable glitch which is definitely display related as seen in the attached pic. I tried everything I tried rolling to Vista's standard VGA driver, I tried disabling hardware acceleration (couldn't do it with my 9600 gt had go to VGA drivers and then disable it) I tried going to 640x480 desktop resolution, I tried using Microsoft's Compatibility Toolkit 5.0, I tried the compatibility tab in UFO Defense.exe properties, I tried everything I could think of. I would just adjust it from the monitor but Viewsonic didn't see fit to add a OSD option to adjust vertical size of the picture only horizontal size. I even tried to update the monitor drivers hoping it would add that functionality but I see it didn't....... And I even tried the various loader fixes available and I installed XcomUtil and ran it hoping it could bypass it all a no go...... I contacted Viewsonic via email but I can imagine how helpful they will be................

Xcom Ce On Vista 32bit
Outlawstar15a2 replied to BladeFireLight's topic in Xcom 1: Technical Support
No, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it's IMPOSSIBLE to run the CE (Collector's Edition, aka Windows version) in dosbox. Maybe my driver hint finding will help him, but dosbox, for sure, won't help (because it's running with DirectDraw). Hey... maybe another idea would be to install the directx version X-COM uses... But thanks for the thread (your solution), it will come in handy for me... Wanna bet? Because I just finished installing and configuring X-Com Apocalypse using DOSbox. You need to use DOSbox to play X-Com Apoc as well. TFTD AND UFO Can be installed easily with Vista since it uses Windows Installshield, however, after you install it DO NOT run it in compatibility mode. Just run it virgin you might need Fodder's load fixes but I didn't I got it to run. I have no idead how but I did. Had to uninstall it and then reinstall it. -
As you know from before I downloaded X-Com Apocalypse from off the net I have everything but I needed to download the alien map files as I didn't see them. After applying the crack and mousefix I can play X-Com 3 in XP everything is beautiful but I had no movie files. So I did some searching and forgot I had downloaded a another copy of apocalypse in a seperate torrent. I searched the unused x-com torrent archive and lo and behold I found the movie files I needed however when I slapped the movie files into the directory and started the cracked exe it goes straight to the start screen, though with no further errors. However when I start the game with the original exe it shows the first second of the video (microprose logo) but its frozen at that but I can still go to start screen. I downloaded the RAD Tools they play perfectly outside the game but the game won't play them is there anyway we can fix the .exe file I've read the same problem on other forums and message boards across the net. Is there a patch or what?

Do a Search for the midnight editor v6.3 NOT v6.1 which I downloaded after all these years and found out it doesn't work very well (probably OS) get v6.3 and it works too damn good to mention here. It's a save game editor and thus bypassing the DOSbox problem it can do ANYTHING you want it to do. Want more money? Can do. Want to edit buyable vehicles AND vehicles in your base(s)? Can do. Want to edit research info and even fool with diplomatic physics (although with unknown results)? Can do. Want to fool with soldier info and make everyone into super duper alien mother frakkers with maxed stats and disruptor armor? Can fracking do! This baby DOES IT ALL!! And asks for seconds! Ooh-fracking-Rah!!!

yeah but how many times do you shoot with a toxigun with B clips? Because I can shoot till I'm blue in the mouth I dont know when to stop and I've lost 12 agents in three attempts.

Tell that to my copy of the game I just took down a Mothership (I think) and two transports plus two destroyers.

Does your girl like to watch you play the game? My girl can't be bothered. Although she knows that she and all our friends are "in" the game as renamed agents (She's a biochemist, in her case). When base raids happen, she does tell me, "Kill them all!" But your girl likes to watch? What does she think about the game? shes like any other woman, she thinks i'm out of mind mind for playing games and she thinks its even worse when i play a game almost eight years old but I dont care. I play this game because since it came out theres been few games as addicting as this. Save Medieval Total, Shogun Total War, and Rome Total War despite its very weak AI. But I must digress she does cheer me on when I kill cultists for some reason it makes her happy.

I don't know about that after 50% thing. I've had organizations at 98% and with hard work and dedication I knocked it back down to 17% or lower and kept it there but you got to stay on your toes and be observant.

I simply prefer to do a SWAT style siege at both doors and slug it out when they decide to so their yellow bellies.
