Should the smoke and fire last a bit longer?

hmmm, he has a good point

 

fire should

A) last longer

B) whenever serge has time to code it in, fire should be able to spread

and C) Fire should do more damage, the 8-12 damage for catching on fire is pitiful

It really doesn't make sense to just say "make smoke last longer" due to that its not defined internally, but through the equipment.lua file. You can't force all weapon sets to go this way. IMHO, the basic smoke time resembles smoke real enough...

 

Fire...well that I haven't messed around with much...

Fire and smoke should definitely last longer, with smoke and fire from sources devoted to their creation lasting longest (i.e. flame from an incendiary weapon, or smoke from a smoke grenade/rocket). Fire should also spread to adjacent squares (above and below) and last as long as there's something for it to burn (including corpses, grenades and munitions), dealing damage to anyone ending a turn inside of it, or moving into it, the latter action resulting in lesser damage. Any soldier doing either of these things should also be subject to the possibility of getting ignited themselves (depending on their armor).
