would'nt it be easyer to yous game maker 6 or 7 for programing ufo2k?
it is simaler to c and c++.

No matter what programming language you use, it will always be a milestone to achieve what you want. We can't simply drop the hat because there is an easy way of doing things. Why? We would be in an eternal "switch to something better" process and would backtrack progress, making all efforts wasted in the first place. No matter how "similar" a language is, it is not the same and will behave differently. We refuse to lose 7 years of hard work to any code change.

Game Maker 7 is not a programming language, it is a object oriented drag and drop software application to simulate programming use for inexperienced programmers written in the Delphi programming language. Object oriented drag and drop applications restrict experienced programmers to almost no flexibility. This can include problems for stability, network interface (any interface for that matter), debugging, game behavior, and the list goes on and on. Easy is not always better.

Game Maker 7 also exclusively supports Windows. There are various operating systems out there such as OS X, Linux, and BSD that are being used just as much. :)

If you choose to use such an application however, there is no one stopping you. As for UFO2000, it already is at a higher professional level than a "easy bake" game. It has been for years. We will not consider changing the code to Game Maker, or any other programming language for that matter.
