It's first of the month and I get a shipping route is under attack. Is that a cargo ship mission? And is it really THAT hard?

It's march and I just lost one of my sponcers :crying:
But on the bright side I'm very advance in my research. Got all the sonic weapons(craft and hand). Almost done researching manta. Stuck on mc tree, need tasloth to continue. And I just located a colony. So finally I get some action since I had no action last month.

My strategy in the ship route missions on superhuman difficulty is to go there, kill a few aliens, retreive their corpses and equipment and retreat. There's no way my squad would survive the whole mission without saving every turn. If I don't go there I get 1000 minus points. If I go there and retreat after doing some killing I get much less minus points.

I'll try to do the best I can even if it is a two-parter.

Now is for my question : shiping route = cargo ship?

Get through the Tasoth guard down to the interior level of the colony. You'll find some top brass lobstermen on that level.

Well that ship mission has lobsters and bio-drones.

Funny story. I had all of my guys come out then I see boxes near by so I was like, don't take a chance destroy all the oil drums near by (about 40 of them)
I shot them, they killed 9 of my guys immediately even though they were kind of far from them Now here come the funny part : there was a lobster there and he survived not only that. After I even shot him with my sonic cannon and he survived and killed my last guy. As you can guess I reloaded the mission.

Edit: NKF was right it takes 2-3 shots to kill them.

as soon as you end your turn you will be taken to the second part (if all aliens are killed) so you better do whatever you want to do with your soldiers (pick up items for use in second part?) before ending the turn. though you will be taken to the "equip screen" before starting the second part. basically, two-parter missions are considerer (to the game) as 2-missions-in-one.

bad news, cruisers rarely appear in hard difficulty levels since cargo ships tend to carry tougher aliens. good news, cruisers have lots of rooms for aliens to hide in and civilians for the aliens to kill (compared to cargo ship). also, cargo ships got lots of oil drums. plenty of fun blowing'em up ^_^

so... um... ships tend to always have bio-drones, with either tasoths or lobstermans... so... good luck ;)

too bad, now you will never know the ancient secrets of supsupers long gone avatar ;)

Yes, tactics, and patience. (plenty of easily obtainable and/or portable firepower helps too)

Solo eh? Never made any attempt to try that in TFTD before. But in UFO, I think the following ancient challange I put up a long time ago would be of interest to anyone wanting to give a solo mission a try: ;)

Hey, I was bored. And it was lots of fun. And it's a real ego booster if you actually manage to pull off such a ridiculous stunt.

You know, if you started the game from scratch (i.e. with only the access lift), no fund support from any of the countries (they've all defected), but have sufficient funds, you can still get up and running by the start of the next month and still have a chance at winning the game. [1]

Truly, with the right conditions (funds and an intact access lift), you can always get back up on your feet again.

It works in UFO, and I bet it'll work in TFTD too, though I would assume that it's much more challenging.

Well I just finished the top level of a cargo ship. It was challenging since there were a lot of lobsterman. On the second level however (just started) I already see 5 bio-drones. And Iím scared

Does the second level contain about the same amount of aliens as the first?

Edit : Number of dead aliens: 36

I will never attack a terrorist USO! 41 aliens to kill is way too much.

I'd advise at least getting some knowledge of your mind defenses before attempting to wipe out a colony (as opposed to raiding the colony).

The top-side entrance facility is crawling with Tasoth, and as they have the strongest molecular control abilities of all the races, being able to avoid it altogether is highly recommended. However, if you can get past them to the interior level, the most you'll face will be Lobstermen and a horde of tentaculats.

If you can't get ahold of M. C tech, I recommend the DPL launcher (you can 'steal' a launcher and a clip sample from a colony). It's great for handling the entrance level. Nothing breaks a Tasoth's morale faster than having all its buddies falling down around it! ;)

As for Terror ships: The number of aliens in a ship do not necessarily match the number of aliens in a mission started by the ship. So I wouldn't worry about tackling them. On the other hand, has anyone ever seen a terror ship start a shipping lane mission?

Depends. Both suck.

M.C. tech is molecular control aka PSI from Xcom 1. To get a MC lab, capture any terrorist alien alive. Then, before you research the MC lab, capture any Tasoth alive. Then research the MC lab, then the tasoth so you get the MC disruptor that lets you control alien minds.

Just an important note - make sure you have a M. C. Reader in storage before you finish research on the M.C.-lab. If you don't, the M. C. reader will not be available for research even if you get some samples later. If you cannot get the reader, the live tasoth will not net you the M.C. Disrupter (psi-amp).

this is a peculiar bug that happened to me in a cruiser terror site.
i have a soldier (X), a stair (S) and a door (O - open, o - closed) like this:
X S o
i order the soldier to move towards the door (opening it in the process). the soldier moves forward, climbs the stairs in his way and ends up in level two. however, when he got through the square above where he was supposed to go to, he still opened the door below him, so it ended like this
X
S O
pretty funny to watch ;)

Hi,

came back to TFTD after quite a while, got smthing to add more or less on topic ;)

Exploding objects - just had a colony attack mission, 6 soldiers on second level, Ion Armors, Gauss Riffles, 1 magna-blast grenade. Landed with 2 lobsters and a tentaculat right in the next room, barely made it to survive, so decided I will just blow ( or at least try to ) the synomium and perhaps try to escape alive. Found it, was on top of it with one of my guys, but couldnt throw in the grenade - decided to shoot it. BANG!, hit the small wall-like structure surround the hole leading to the room... it exploded... my aquanaut died *facepalm*

But his sacrifice was not wasted, the next one that came over had a smooth and clear shoot at the synomium and I eve managed to get 4 people alive out of this :D

Anyways, it was important for me to go and destroy that colony since when I found it I realized it must have been there for at least a month - so decided to go there with 10 Ion armored, Gauss Rifle equipped aquanauts. Turned out really well ( read above ;) ) - the gauss could still damage tasoths and crabs when used with autofire in close range ;)

Unfortunately I lost one of the countries where the colony was built at the end of the month anyways :/ Not sure what to think about this as this is like my 3rd month or smthing.

P.
