Steelion
Not kidding. I shoot down a UFO, and when I start the battle- it ends. Just like that. all 5 aliens were killed in the crash. Got me an easy 95 ponts. How many of you have had this happen?
[Mad]
Not kidding. I shoot down a UFO, and when I start the battle- it ends. Just like that. all 5 aliens were killed in the crash. Got me an easy 95 ponts. How many of you have had this happen?I've had this only once. But this has to be an error. Normally one would assume that if all aliens are dead, the UFO should be destroyed... But, of course I don't know how game mechanisms work regarding that matter... Platium_Panda
this has happened to me lots of times, considering that the copy of ufo was badly corrupted
[NKF]
If I remember correctly, you do have to end your turn, so it's a 1-turn battle. I seem to recall having had this happen to me a few times with shot-down medium scouts. Because the medium scout's crew have no protection against the exploding reactor, anyone starting the mission inside the ship will get wiped out. So, if all the aliens begin inside the UFO... I think you see what I'm getting at. It should be easier to replicate this on easier difficulty levels because the range of aliens that will spawn in the battle is smaller than if you were playing on superhuman difficulty. You can also perform this in base defence missions with Zombie's instant-win base setup. All you need to do is us up ALL the unit spawn nodes in the base. This can be done by making the base as minimal as possible and hiring enough soldiers to fill all the spawn nodes up. With this, you can win the mission without a fight as no aliens will be generated in the battle. Their equipment however will be left behind and you'll get to keep it too. - NKF Edited July 19, 2006 by NKF
Steelion
I Didn't even have to end the battle. When it happened, I thought my game had crashed, then the screen popped up and it said 5 alien corpses recovered.... I just spawned and that was it. Bullet-Tooth Tony
Not long ago in Terror from the Deep I went to a shot-down Escort Ship (TftD equivalent of Medium Scout), got to initial equip screen and saw... a stunned Aquatoid in my equipment pile!He must have been standing where the Triton was about to land. The pilot has landed the submarine right on the poor bastard's head. Edited August 15, 2006 by Bullet-Tooth Tony
Zombie
By the way, I have been trying to recreate this phenomenon with little luck. Shot a Medium Scout down hundreds of times over the desert landscape (on Beginner skill level) and I always ended up having to hunt for live aliens. Me thinks this is terrain as well as skill level dependant. So if any of you had this happen to you please mention what landscape it was in and the skill level. That would help tremendously! - Zombie Edited August 18, 2006 by Zombie
[Blehm 98]
I believe certain maps that have a lot of clutter (mountains is a good example) have less spawnpoints. The cave terrain is a 20x20 map, and it has no (i believe it has no spawn points, it may have one though) spawn points in it, so if you get most of the terrain to be like the caves then you will have very few spawn points except for the UFO itself
zaimoni
The only time I have seen this, is after using the Daishiva map editor to try to create ambush points within a Medium Scout. [i did this by giving a couple of soldiers the chance to walk to the ambush point. Wasn't as effective as I liked, so I backed out of it recently.] If the Medium scout came up with 1 Nav. and 2 soldiers, both within the Medium scout: instant game over, no need to click end-turn button. Version: Windows CE. Note that an unmodified Medium Scout cannot do this, as no soldiers spawn within the UFO. I think an unmodified Large Scout is theoretically capable of this (not that I have seen this).
Snakeman
I"ve had instant win games before with the CE version, but I think this is unrelated to spawn points and such. These would be well into battlescape stuff, where an accidental click here or there somehow triggered it to end. All I do know is I didn't click dustoff in those instances. I haven't seen this happen in quite some time though, so it may be session dependent - if it happens, quit and reload the game and it should stop. Although I can't be sure this is the solution for a save game during a battlescape action and this had happened. I think you have to let it happen then move on.
