Guest [email protected]
Here's a brief history: The Microprose studio here on the east coast of the US (I don't remember what state) began development of X-COM: Genesis in mid 1999. The development team was the same that converted UFO Defense to TFTD. They were pretty cool guys who frequented many of the popular xcom forums to consult the fans and collect good ideas. Around March of 2000, Microprose was bought out by Hasbro a.k.a. Hasborg The Assimilator. Hasbro immediately began laying people off, including the development team working on Genesis. The project was scrapped and that was that. Sometime in the last 6 months, Hasbro was bought out by Infogames. Within the last two months, Infogames sold all Microprose intellectual property (games) to Firaxis, run by Sid Meier. His intentions regarding and future xcom game are unclear at this time. Guest drewid
The development team was the same that converted UFO Defense to TFTD. [\QUOTE] Nope. The TFTD dev team was UK based. None of the genesis team were involved in UFO or TFTD. it went like this:ufo - uk - mythos/MPStftd - uk - MPSApoc - uk - Mythos/MPSInterceptor - US (Hunt Valley IIRC)Alliance - UK - MPSGenesis - US - can't rememberemail - UK - MPSenforcer - no idea. Guest tyler
shame we'll probably never get to play it, On a side note though, how come we haven't seen a version of X-com for a handheld yet? The GBA should be up to it.
The Master Maniac
Stupid corporate pigs. Now they're into gaming. Wonderful. Well, you guys will just have to kick their donkeys (there, I did the editing for you ) by making Xenocide rock. May Genesis rest in peace. Oh, we hardly knew ye. Chris StarShade
HasBorg the Assimilator... yeah that sounds about right. Those evildoers ate TSR and own Wizards of the Coast! And now I hear they are impeding X-COM development in addition to screwwing with D&D (which I already knew they were doing). Curses on you Hasborg! Curses! [[Micah]]
All of this is... at least 2-year old news... and Hasborg was assimilated by Infogrames which had an identity crisis and became Atari.
Chris StarShade
Atari is like China. Whenever it gets conquered, its conquerers become Chinese.

Guest Guest
maybe there is a leak... i would love to get hands on some materials from that game...<{POST_SNAPBACK}> A leak like what happened with Half Life 2. You know, stuff happens. If we could get hold of the partial game, even if it was in early stages of development... maybe it could be the birth of X-CROM: Genesis (for trademark issues)
