Guest Azrael
To be released on October 21st, can't wait to try it, though I really really hope the high minimum requirements allow me to play very high last time I checked.

[Blehm 98]
the game was excellent however, you do need to download the patches, that was the only reason it didn't get a lot of higher reviews, the patches are excellent
Guest Azrael
Did you like the first one? I havn't really heard anyones review from it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I found the first one very much interesting, but also very much flawed, there is a clear problem of tactical balance, as at one point there would come about 5-6 aliens with Rocket Spitters and squash your little squad like a bug in a matter of 4 seconds, and there was little you could do, except hide and never *ever* try to attack them. Also the game got a little repetitive, tactical missions were simpler than in X-Com (doesn't precisely mean easier, but the ones at the beginnings in which you only fight mutants are a piece of cake, except counted occassions), there is the "glossary", poor and lame term to what would be the UFOPaedia. I found the base system to be incredibly lame and simple. I did LOVE the music of the game, the general dread feeling, the globe (greatly rendered and texturised, imo) the Glossary descriptions, albeit short, are nice and reinforce the general feeling that Earth is lost already and you're all alone, the soldier voices are GREAT, they each have different accents (not many, mind you), there is even asiatic people who say "Arien!" instead of Alien when they spot one, that certainly helps you believe the whole atmosphere. The SAS (Simultaneous Action System) is great, basically it's the same combat system used in Apoc, but a little lamer.Overall it's a very interesting game, which can be a lot of fun but a bit simple at times, but definitely worth playing, not precisely something to write home about, but a good game all in all, should be patched.About UFO: Aftermath interviews, you can read some here in StrategyCore
[Blehm 98]
About aftermath, in certain missions you absolutely had to have luck or you couldn't win it, because it did invovle 6 aliens with rockets all shooting at you at the same time i did almost beat it in that situation, but its easier when they have to walk into the spawn area THEN shoot you, not they are already there and shoot you but it had a very good story line
Slaughter
Did you like the first one? I havn't really heard anyones review from it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>The story is great, and the game is quite nice. I didn't enjoy it as much as X-COM, but if you play it with an open mind and do not expect it to be the sequel to X-COM, I'm sure you'll enjoy. If you wish to read a bit about the story, I'd recommend this text by Troll. It contains many spoilers however!!!

Slaughter
If it ain't free, I'm not getting.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Depends on how you define free. UFO: Aftermath has been released with some PC magazines, and the special edition of UFO: Aftershock will most likely contain UFO: Aftermath as well. kafros
You don't have to Indeed, just wait some months, and you get a "free" copy with a magazine (you just have to pay for the magazine). Or you just play open-source games http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_game_software

Guest Azrael
You can find reviews everywhere, I can as much as give you my personal opinion, but that won't do you any good You can read my opinion in my log Overall: I didn't like it. But that's just my opinion, there are plenty of people who enjoy it a great deal
Oldblue153
Of course theres lots of sites offering reviews and opinions on the game....I just thought i'de place a little more meret on ones from an X-com fans over a reviewer who begins with "I don't like these type games" or one who gives a "thumbs-up" based on financial reasons irregardless of the gameplay. And who better to ask then the people from Xenocide
[Mad]
Of course theres lots of sites offering reviews and opinions on the game....I just thought i'de place a little more meret on ones from an X-com fans over a reviewer who begins with "I don't like these type games" or one who gives a "thumbs-up" based on financial reasons irregardless of the gameplay.Well, if you want a xcom based review on this... I can not help you.. No, actually I can. I really like it. I agree with Azrael, the resource system is a little weired, but on the other hand it adds some spice to the whole thing. Until now, I cannot find it unbalanced somehow, not as AM which was practiyally unplayable as soon as the reticulans got the rocket spitters, but I'm not too far in the game, so maybe sth. like this might still come...Graphics are really nice, and AI is not too bad. Though some things in the battlescape suck (like the thing that you can only capture one special individual) others are really nice. Only thing which really gets on my nerves, is that there is only has a very limited area of view if one prefers a top down or "isometric-like" angle. But on the other hand there is this nice feature where you can choose where on the map you whish to land your capsule... Synchronization of speech to the "actors" mimics is really bad. This is kind of a pity, because I like the idea of people talking to you. So concluding, I think this is a game worthy of bearing the title "in the spirit of X-COM". Of course it is not as good as Xenocide will be. Well, this is it, I think. The rest is available in other reviews...
Guest Azrael
I don't think it can bear the title of "in the spirit of X-Com", as while not being bad, it's not precisely attempting to make a spiritual successor to X-Com, it's merely ripping off (not sayign this in the bad sense) X-Com's game style, and done quite badly, IMHO, as it doesn't use the strongpoints of X-Com.Of course having a more developed storyline than X-Com is certainly a good thing. Slaughter
So did anyone play this game?...if so give us a quick review<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I suggest you give the demo a spin. It gives you an impression of the game, though it has some sound bugs. As for me, I like it. A big improvement over Aftermath, though still not beating X-COM (I'd like to see someone beat X-COM and Fallout...). Customisable weapons, drones that you can "design yourself" and more are very nice touches. My main gripes with it is that it's too long (not because that's a bad thing, but because the variation in tactical missions aren't big enough for such a long game), and that the AI still isn't good enough. Then again, I never played a game where the AI is good enough
