  1. One thing that bugged me about the original games was that whether a base was a month old or a year old, it was the same size. If you pick up scouts establishing a base and send a squad in to blitz it within a month of its establishment, the mission should be realistic: a tiny base crawling with engineers, and with much less booty than a fully operational base. Likewise, a base that's been established for more than a year could have a diverse population of "civilian" and military aliens; more machinery and more research opportunities, and be equipped with better defenses (for instance motion trackers that when activated send a squad of terrorists in your general direction).
  2. Here's one for you guys: while bug-hunting round an alien base, I had a grunt zapped into a zombie, and I MC'd it. What I didn't expect was for it to remain under my control for the entire mission. I thought this might be a one-off, so on my next game I MC'd a brain-dude and sat him next to my weakest grunt. As expected, he got turned into a Zombie, and I RC'd the zombie. To my utmost surprise, not only did the zombie remain under my control for the remainder of the mission, so did the bug that turned him! Has anyone else experienced this?
  3. That www.paralight.ru URL seems to be defunct. Is there a mirror site somewhere?
  4. Thanks for those comments. I am a bit surprised that you think this GFX card is below minimum spec, when you say the minimum spec is a GF2. I also have a Geforce2 MX, and I did try it in this system. The onboard GFX on this P4 mobo wiped the floor with it when playing Unreal Tournament, UT2003, Jedi Outcast, Return to Castle Wolfenstein... which is why said geforce card is rotting in a drawer somewhere. I know the card isn't even half-good by today's standards, but it is newer than the Geforce2 and it puts in a far more respectable show on the latest games than my venerable Geforce2 MX does!
  5. System as follows: P4 1.7Ghz system running XP Service Pack 1, DirectX 9.0B optimized for SIS 650_740 onboard GPU and 512B of RAM. When loading, mouse pointer disappears completely and I get a blank popup window. After 20 seconds or so, I hear a bit of music accompanied by a Windows error report dialog box. The log files appear to be completely empty. Any thoughts? I've attached a DXDIAG report in case it's of any help. DxDiag.txt
