mamutas
I voted farm. Because I am getting it in 75% of the missions. I mean, common: you could have used at least something other than cabbage all the time!
coolp
I hate farm, I land there 90% of the time, and the landscape just isn't much fun, I don't really like anything about the farm landscape... I wish that it could be farm 50% of the time you land somewhere like that and forest the other 50%...

Shadow
I voted Snow. Boooorrriiinnnggg!!!!!! :whatwhat: You can´t really hide there and there isn´t much exciting to see.Bah! My favourite is Mountains and City. I don´t get mountains often and I like those caverns!Okay, it´s not that interesting but looks good.City is best! With all those houses to hide (or burn down) and fuel stations to blow up! If there only wasn´t the civilians to protect... Urban combat rocks! Desert is somewhat boring, too.Farm is OK, but appears to be too often...Jungle is better than forest.Watch out for those Viet.., uh, I mean aliens! EDIT: Map Editor???? I want it!!!! Where can I grab it???? Pleeeaassee!! Edited January 17, 2004 by Shadow

The Master Maniac
I freaking hate fighting in the Xcom base. Millions of things go wrong, ie. half your troops are loaded in a room COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED FROM THE REST OF THE BASE, with like maybe one or two guys actually able to fight. I do, all in all, like the snow missions best--they just fit in with X-Com's creepy "feel." And overused they may be, but the "farm" missions make a good deal of sense given the aliens' tendency to operate in rural areas, and they also work well given the more strategic outset of the older buildings. I'm swinging for the fences here, suggesting that maybe, for a future X-Com iteration, we go with...snow-covered farms...?

j'ordos
No, xcomutil is for both DOS and CE, it fixes other things as well, and adds in new features. The bases look a little weird after applying the fix, but hey

Paladin
I agree cruise ships were the utmost anoying of all (they were FAR TOO BIG) with hundreds of spots to check... Ugh, a LobsterMan Infected-CruseShip...Then again, this Thread is fo the original XCOM, not TFD In XCOM1, I must say the cities were far too cramped and full of hiding holes to be much fun, the worst part was that we could'nt blow up many walls, because of those Friggin' civilians (who waited to be shot for a day or more before my guys arrived)... I usually am carefull about civilians, but unfortunately they are usually used to point where the aliens are... Farmalnds come a close second though, because there are far too much of those... At least there are only a couple buildings, but c'mon, there is'nt that much farmland on earth... I'd understand it perfectly if the UFO landed, it won't go in plain wilderness unaided, but when a UFO crashes... Technically, one should crash in a city once in a while, that'd be fun Those who don't like jungle obviously have never heard of AC-HE or AC-IC, it rocks... :happybanana: Those who don't like Arctic, I don't get it IT'S SO COOL!!!! (pun definitely intended). then again, since I'm in Canada, I understand some people just don't get it what snow is all about :: Mountains are great, simply because we don't get enough of these, as are XCOM-Bases... I usually shoot down the battleships way before they find me Alien bases can become dull though, especially if you've done a few of them. Far too long to take on... (Motion scanner anyone?) <_> The Cruise ships on TFTD, they do it to me every time i play it. I have actually started to just leave the cruise ships alone. and the problem is, the aliens never go to levels 3 or 4, but i searched everywhere. Tsereve
Definately farmland. I get these >75% of the time, and they're too big! orchards, esp. @ night. Snow rocks, tho. I just hide my best sharpshooters by the landing gear and all the aliens who are stupid enuf to peek out. NE1 who's already outside gets to shake hands with my HWPs ( !), and once the outside is secure, the real fun begins. . .1) Find a snowdrift for use as cover2) Find a no-name rookie and a squaddie/sergeant3) Prime a couple of smoke grenades4) Completely ignore smoke grenades and snowdrift, get rookie as close to the door as you can, have officer crouch behind rookie5) Have officer stand 2 squares behind UFO door, rookie right next to it6) Make rookie enter UFO. . .7) Hear a big boom, watch body of rookie come flying out of UFO, officer opens fire, watch body of alien come flying out of UFO8) Stand by for debriefing Edited July 20, 2004 by Tsereve
Paladin
Farmlands are simply boring because there's far too much of it... I mean, deserts, forest and endless grassland are far more common on earth... I mean, they're quite cool, but it would be nice to have a bear or alien there once in a while... checking the map with mapview, there are waypoints in the cave, so technically the aliens should enter it once in a while, but they have no spawn point in there, only outside the cave.
